Editorial Policy

Sourcing, checking, bylines, dates and commercial links, set out so you can judge what you read on Rise Layouts.

The promise behind the site

This page describes how Rise Layouts is made. It is here so that you can decide how much weight to give anything else on the site.

Where money enters

Yes, some outbound links pay. What they pay for is the hosting bill, not the wording of the assessment sitting next to them.

Nobody has ever bought the removal of a fair criticism here, and the ones who try mostly hand us the material for the next article.

From notes to published page

  1. Draft from experience, not from a page of search results.
  2. Underline every claim that rests on memory rather than a source.
  3. Support it or lose it. Each underline is backed by something we can name, or it comes out.
  4. A cold read by a second person catches the confident guesses the writer stopped seeing.

What earns a page

We keep a running list of questions readers send us, plus questions we had ourselves and could not find a straight answer to. A topic gets written when it appears on that list more than once.

Bylines

Each piece is signed, and each signature is a link to everything else that person has written. A house byline would let a weak article hide; a real name does not.

Mara Vinter, Layout and composition writer. Mara writes about the principles behind good layout, aimed at people who want their work to look intentional rather than accidental.

Theo Brandt, Web and product design writer. Theo explains web and interface design for beginners, focused on clarity and usability over trends.

Suki Tanaka, Typography and color writer. Suki covers type and color, translating design theory into practical choices anyone can apply.

What the date means

Published means published. We do not bump dates to look active, and an edit only changes the modified date when it changes what the article actually tells you to do.

Corrections

Send the page and the problem to info@riselayouts.site. Typos are fixed silently. Facts are fixed quickly. Conclusions that turn out to be wrong are corrected in the open, with a note saying what we previously said.
